Back in early 2019 (that seems like eons ago doesn’t it?), we were working with a business coach. Our coach, Glen, recommended that we start doing daily huddles. Daily huddles are part of the Scaling Up business framework established by Verne Harnish and what we are (albeit loosely) following that at ArcStone.
So, we began. We met at the big table every day at 8:47 am. We shared news, what we were working on, and any blockers we were facing. It was good and soon, our huddles became a habit.
Fast forward to March 2020. You know what I’m going to say, right? Like everyone else, we packed up our computers and essentials and started working from home. Our daily huddle habit became even more important.
Our daily huddles may look a little different now. They’re on Zoom but they continue to be essential to our business and culture. They’re our only regular touchpoints and sometimes the only time we see each other face-to-face.
Still, it’s tough not to feel like groundhog day. Every day, I ask,
“So, what’s new? Anyone got any news to share?”
One Wednesday several months ago, David ran the huddle because I had a doctor’s appointment. He decided to jazz things up by asking everyone a question.
I think it was
“If you could walk around Lake of the Isles with someone special and just talk to them for an hour, who would you choose?”
And that’s how Sparkle Wednesday was born.
