What makes your generation unique? Bonus question - Are you in the right generation?

I recently read “Hear Me Out: What If Gen Xers Are Actually the Cool Ones?” by Daisy Jones. The author—herself a millennial—was raised by a dyed-in-the-wool Gen Xer and, as she puts it, was “spoonfed Gen X culture from an early age.” She admits she was born too late and suggests that while Gen Z, millennials, and boomers debate which generation wears the crown, the often-overlooked Gen X might just be the coolest of them all.
As a Gen Xer, I read the article with a big smile—finally, some recognition! It got me thinking: what is it that makes a generation unique?
For Gen X, I’d say it’s our scrappiness. We were thrifting before it was a verb (and I love that younger generations are embracing it now, too). We were the original latchkey kids, riding the school bus with our house keys strung around our necks. And while the meme “raised on hose water and neglect” is a little snarky... well, it’s not entirely wrong.
So now I’m curious—what makes your generation unique? What are the habits, experiences, or quirks that define your age group? And, do you feel like you’re in the right generation?
Interesting thoughts… I’m Gen X and for me this brings a shadow of death… sorry to be a bummer on such a beautiful day. 🤦🏻♀️ We had the aids crisis, the Cold War, the challenger crash, and the first tuition hikes. Religion was rampant and we didn’t know who we were. I lost a lot of people from that time and I believe that makes me harder. Today, through therapy, I know who I am and have worked hard to shed the old me the judgmental me, and live in antevasin- the in between spirit and place. It’s much better here. So maybe not when, but where.
