Here's a story about me. I share this with a few of you - wink wink.
When my mom was a young girl, her dad died. I think she was only twelve. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Auntie.) My grandma worked hard to raise her three girls, which was tough.
On the other side of my family, my dad's mom died when he was a young man in his early twenties.
After my parents married and became new parents, they started having my dad's dad and mom's mom babysit my older siblings.
At some point, others in my family can fill in the details; my grandma (mom's mom) and my grandpa (dad's dad) fell in love and married. They were married for over thirty years.
When I was a kid, I often asked why I didn't ever visit my other grandparents. I guess the whole story went over my head.
I often wonder what my other grandparents, Ava Van Horn and Ross Eck were like. I don’t know too much about them other than Ava was musical and a teacher. Ross was a farmer. Would they have coupled up and fallen in love too?
If I could pick an ancestor (or two) to meet, I'd choose Ross and Ava.
What about you? Which of your ancestors would you like to meet?
I also would have liked to have met Ross and Ava. Ava died when I was 1 or 2.
I also would like to have met Enoch Hirst (my great grandfather). And also meet Hirst family from England, even though I now prefer Ireland.
I feel the same way. I did meet Ava when I was in high school. She was sick with asthma, and I would sit with her and tell Gordon came home and so she wouldn’t be alone. I would sit there and do my homework. She was very weak at that point, but she loved music, played the violin and the piano, and sang in the choir. It’s so funny to think of Gordon, then marrying my mother Ruth.but most of all I would like to get to know my dad Ross, Edwin Eck he died when I was four years old, so I don’t have very many memories of him, but I do have a few that I recall, and will share with all of you when I see you. Ross was a businessman/salesman in Chicago and when grandpa Eck August Eck was getting older they asked Ross to come back to the farm and work. I don’t think he liked it very much.. he had one older sister, Miriam, Lester, a brother and twin sisters, Mabel and Myrtle. Grandma Eck was indeed a special person and we all had a big connection to her. I think Cherrill got her cooking ability from grandma Eck because she would let us watch her bake and I can’t remember for sure, but I think Cherrill helped. Even though we were for women living alone, it was a lovely childhood, and I went to the same school district for 12 years.
