Many of us have needed extra hugs over the last couple of weeks. It's been rough. I like a good hug. Hugs help.
There are so many types of hugs: the side hug, the group hug, the bear hug, the pat-on-the-back hug, and so many others.
Fortunately, many people in my life give amazing hugs, but one recent hug stands out.
A couple of days ago, Leo and I were running some errands together in his car, Mogu. He drove. There's nothing better than buying socks for your grown son at Target. Lol. When it came time for him to leave, he gave me a big, long hug with two squeezes. That hug was exactly what I needed.
We know that a good hug slows our heart rates and reduces cortisol, making us feel calm, safe, and relaxed. Why aren’t we hugging more? Today’s challenge - give out some hugs.
What about you? Who in your life gives the best hugs?
Funny that this topic of hugging was the question this week. When a couple gets older hugs are even more important than ever. My book club talked about this at one of our meetings. We all agreed that hugging was the best thing ever, especially a lingering hug. But I must say Lisa, that Leo gave me a very special hug at the Pizza Restaurant. Carry on Leo, you know how to hug. ❤️
My dear friend Sally is a great hugger. She always puts her hands on my shoulders after a hug and looks me in the eyes and expresses her love and friendship. I have lots of good huggers in my life. My friend, Gen, is also a wonderful hugger. They outnumber the "side huggers" or the "don't get too close- tap tap tap" huggers. ;) I'll be looking for a Leo hug at Thanksgiving.
