Other than the location, what's the key to a spectacular vacation?

My mother-in-law, B’nana, turned 80 years old a few days ago. While making a slideshow for her party, I found an old photo album I made documenting our trip to Italy together.
We had a few days with just the five of us before meeting some of my siblings, their partners, kids, and auntie. There were fourteen of us, and always something going on! We stayed in this fabulous villa in Tuscany with olive and lemon trees, a big swimming pool, and tennis courts. It was epic!
So many things made this trip extra memorable, including the beautiful countryside, endless things to see and do, fabulous food, wine, and gelato, copious amounts of espressos and cappuccinos, late-night tennis matches, and afternoons at the pool after long days of sightseeing. After so many years, we still compare other trips to this one.
Nothing compares with the people, though. It was the people that made this trip extraordinary. For me, people are the key to a spectacular vacation!

Besides the people you’re with, I think a nice combination of set plans and relaxation is lovely! dependent of course on where you’re vacationing, I think having certain things to look forward to is nice, but not feeling like you have an obligation to follow a strict schedule. I personally am a big planner- I love finding good restaurants and stuff, but also love to explore and relax at my own leisure! Having a balance of the two is key for me!
The people you meet and the people you travel with. One encounter can make or break a trip.
