When I was a kid, on Christmas Eve, we'd have a special supper late after church. My mom would make creamy wild rice soup with chicken and water chestnuts, and there would always be oyster stew with mini oyster crackers for my dad.
I thought the stew my dad was devouring was big D - disgusting. It smelled gross and looked like a dog had gotten sick in his bowl. Granted, it was from a can and probably wasn't too great, but at the core, I had a strong aversion to oysters, even super fresh ones. They were slimy and repulsive.
Well, guess what? I love fresh oysters now (the brinier, the better), and given the right recipe, I'd be down with oyster stew, too. I'm going to make it soon.
What about you? What food did you never think you'd like but now you do?
Bleu cheese, goat cheese, brie--pungent cheeses of all kinds! One day, I just felt a shift and realized that they're one of the best things about being alive.
As most kids I used to think veggies were bland and boring. Now as an adult I CRAVE them! There’s so many ways to experience veg - roasted, sautéed, grilled… delicious!
