As a teenager, one of my main objectives was to graduate from high school and get onto the next, more exciting thing. I guess you could say I was a little like Dorothy Gale and didn't appreciate what was right there before me.
Looking back, school sounds like a fun way to spend my days. What? You mean I get to read books and write papers all day? Sign me up! I guess what they say about youth being wasted on the young is true. At least, it was for me.
I'd love to go back and re-take some high school classes. The two classes that stand out to me are Creative Writing and Experiencing Literature. I had a fantastic teacher, but I don't think I threw my heart into it. If I were going back and taking a class I didn't take initially, I’d take art. At my high school, the music and art classes were scheduled simultaneously, so taking both music and art was impossible. I hope they figured that out for all those budding creative types.
What do you think? What high school class do you wish you could take again?
Any language. I took German in high school and put minimal effort in- I wish I’d have taken French or Spanish. I loved cultural geography in HS which was also one of my favorite classes in college.
Spanish for sure! I'll never forget when my Spanish teacher wrote a note on my report card that said "I really like Sam, but I think he could do much better..." She wasn't wrong and I still wonder how good I'd be with Spanish if I had really seen the light and buckled down in high school.
