Happy Independence Day! I'm writing this on July 4th. Here in Minneapolis, the weather is hot and sticky, with a chance of thunderstorms. It's not the perfect day for picnicking. But that's okay with me.
David and I got home from our camping trip yesterday, and there's plenty to do. Between doing the many loads of laundry (as my dad would have put it, "it looks like you're doing laundry for a battleship"), grocery shopping, and getting set to return to work, there's not much time for fireworks. There's no need to get out your tiny violin, we had a fantastic trip, and I feel refreshed!
Over the years, we've had many fun or just-plain memorable “4ths” with the boys. What stands out? Maybe the 4th when the boys played “rounders” at Fort Snelling, or the time we got caught in a torrential downpour at Bush Lake, or perhaps it was the time when we got stuck in a HUGE traffic jam leaving the fireworks, and Leo was desperately (hiking through the desert level) thirsty? We had no water or anything to drink in the car. There's nothing like the wrath of a thirsty three-year-old to put you in a good mood. Lol.
What about you? What's your most memorable 4th of July?
Thanks an easy one for me. We got engaged on July 4th 1985. Scott tossed my ring in a glass of wine as a surprise. I nearly swallowed it. 😭😂
One of my most memorable Fourth of July was probably 20 years ago. We were living in Red Wing,MN and had gotten a new speedboat so we took our 3 youngish kids plus our bonus daughter Chloe, out on the boat on the Mississippi River to watch the fireworks up close and personal. The fireworks were good but there was a huge Mayfly hatch that night. It was like a horror movie getting back off the river. Mayflies don’t hatch in May. No one told me.
