What was your favorite breakfast growing up? How about today?
February 7, 2024 | Sparkle Wednesday
When I was a little kid, my dad would make us breakfast most weekdays. I'd wake up to the smell of hot cereal. That's a good, nourishing smell. If I focus on it, I can still conjure up the smell. Can you?
At our house, we rotated between Malt O-meal, Ralston (The company is Ralston Purina. Wait, isn't that dog food?), and Coco Wheats (if we were really lucky!). I LOVED hot cereal. Side note - My dad probably made breakfast to give my mom more time to get ready for work. How sweet! On weekends, when breakfasts were a little more leisurely, I LOVED French toast.
I don't really eat breakfast much anymore, but on Saturdays, I like a big coffee and a fresh scone (local peeps, Kowalski's has some yummy frozen ones).
If a full breakfast is in the cards, I’ll likely choose huevos rancheros or a spicy tofu scramble. I love the one at Bryant Lake Bowl!
What about you? What was your favorite breakfast growing up? How about today?
My favorite breakfast when we were growing up would have to be when we took family camping trips. Our mom would buy the little mini cereal boxes- you could actually cut them open and use the box as a bowl. It usually leaked. We had 5 kids and we all wanted the Frosted Flakes or the Sugar Smacks(yep, that's what it was called..)and if you were slow on the draw you got stuck with the Shredded Wheat. Now, if I eat breakfast I have Greek Yogurt and blueberries but for a weekend indulgence I love the almond croissant at our neighborhood bakery, La Boulangerie Marguerite.
As a kid, every Saturday morning began with a Chocolate Chip Pancake the size of a frozen pizza.
As an adult, I've been really into making French omelettes and having quality bread for toast! It's truly become my favorite meal of the day.
