My 13th birthday was very memorable for me. It was one of those Januaries where it was simply too cold to go outside. School was closed for 2 or 3 days because of the dangerously cold temps. However, this was incredible news for me! Me and my friends had a sleepover to celebrate my birthday and the next day we all went to see Frozen in theaters because the movie theater was the only place open amidst the freezing temperatures.
I remember driving our little Toyota Tercel from Bloomington, Indiana to New Richmond, Wisconsin. It was a particularly cold snap of -20 and colder. We stopped for gas and didn’t turn off the car, as we were worried about the car not starting. I sat in the back seat with our little infant boy of 6 months old. I remember rolling in around 1 or 2 am. Mom and Dad were so relieved and so were we.
Btw Lisa, I remember bringing Scott to meet our family and getting snowed in. I think he ate every last orange that we had on hand. 😳 Do you remember roasting a big turkey? Fun times. 😘
I remember paddling a canoe on a lake that divided the BWCA and Quetico, (Canada's side of the BWCA) and it began to rain like the plague. We pulled over on a rocky shore, huddled in some wet pine trees, and waited for it to pass. As we were waiting, one of us saw a few piles of bear poop...terrified and soaked we paddled back into the pouring rain with no campground in site. And, I swear to god, right as we were about to give up and beg an already-occupied campsite to let us spend the night, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and shone upon a tiny little, rocky island. Flash forward a few hours --we're watching the most brilliant sunset, eating some fried spam, and laughing about how scared we were. I'll never forget it!
I think one of my most memorable weather experiences was in a hurricane storm several years ago in Florida. We were worried about flooding so we went to my friend’s home in Safety Harbor which was on higher ground. Well about 20 others thought the same thing because the house was filled up. People were sleeping in recliners, air mattresses & one couple slept in their car right in the driveway. The food was cold because we had no power, no lights, stove, etc. nevertheless it was lots of fun & the worst part of the storm passed us by once again.
I remember driving down the road busting through snowdrifts with that Datsun B210, Lisa. One other memorable weather experience was a huge snowstorm we had about 5 years ago. We were out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Mucci in St. Paul with our kids. When we walked out of the restaurants the streets were deserted, it was snowing like crazy, and we walked down the middle of the street home. It was like being in a snow globe.

I remember that! I think school was closed the very first day you were supposed to go back from holiday break.

I didn't know the story of you Scott, and Dustin. How scary!
Lol! Did we just have a turkey on hand in the freezer?

Love this story! Were you with your Dad, friends, or?
I don’t know if we will. I hope we do. If we do let’s do an impromptu urban hike!

I think I remember that! Way to make lemonade out of lemons, Auntie!

Love it when the streets become a walking free for all during snow storms. When will we get something like that this year?!
